We can't notice synchronicity without thinking about it. But I'm thinking pure awareness is a thought. I'm not making a value judgement on the utility of meditation. Well, okay but that is just affirming the consequent. We are All One, One with Spirit, One with Life! Be Mindful - and Observe Your Thoughts! You will know the silent observer is your authentic self and is well connected. Search your heart about your silent observer. What you are in fact doing, is re-training your mind. When an unhelpful thought comes along, Be Mindful and think ‘ I’m having the thought that.’ or ‘ thank you mind for that thought but I prefer to.’ Keep practising this and gradually, all negativity will be replaced with positivity. It is the part of you that is attached to your heart and also attached to whatever you call the universe. The silent observer is that part of you which has been observing from the day you were born. You are not your thoughts! This mindful action is to be the silent observer of your thoughts and feelings. You need to understand this truth, or there is no point going any further. If I can observe my thoughts, just like I can observe other objects, who’s doing the observing?Īs mindfulness coach, this is one aspect of being mindful that is not negotiable. Like any experience, they arise in my awareness, and then I have a choice of what to do with them. Thoughts are no more fundamental than sights, sounds, and smells. My thoughts are just one more category of things that I experience. I can see clearly now that life is nothing but passing experiences. What else could I be? I believed that the mental chatter in my head was just 'me', the place where all the experiences of my life happened. ' You are not your thoughts.' The first time I heard somebody say that, I didn’t like the sound of it at all. As you indulge in these kinds of thoughts and feelings, you reinforce emotions in your heart and cause yourself to suffer. Left to itself the mind wanders through all kinds of thoughts including thoughts expressing anger, self-pity, revenge, depression, and anxiety. Lao Tzu said, “Silence is a source of great strength” Thinking too much can only cause problems. This is an excerpt from my book Mindful Actions:
